June 18, 2001 - I just put up digital photos from the camping trip to Newcastle Island (off Vancouver Island). I took a lot of pictures, for the benefit of posterity and to the annoyance of my companions, who gave me looks such as this.

May 27, 2001 - This is the most sublime recording i have heard in a long time, and it's only 2 minutes long. It's a 1968 recording of Glenn Gould playing an Allemande by the English Renaissance composer Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625). Glenn Gould is most famous (or infamous, depending on who you ask) for his Bach, but this performance has a stately, noble beauty that i think rivals his best Bach recordings.

Glenn Gould was one of those musicians who always managed to do things differently from others. It wasn't always successful, but when it was, there was absolutely nothing to compare to it. I would wholeheartedly say that this qualifies him as a genius.

May 26, 2001 - Well, robo.cx is now running on a Real Operating System. Gone is Eric's sister's old Macintosh LC-575 running MacOS 8.1. The old Mac's comforting, if not exactly reliable, beige presence will be missed. As of today, robo.cx now proudly serves up files to the adoring public from an iMacDV/400 running MacOS-X and Apache. It should be somewhat faster (though my cable modem service caps download speeds), and lots more stable. I even made a special graphic (seen below) to celebrate the occasion. :)

The official explanation for the iMac purchase was so that my mom could have her own computer to check her e-mail and surf the web, but we all know that the real reason for its existence in the universe is so that I can play with it...
